Sunlandersunlander berthold sunlander  for schedules…

Briefly….Very disappointing news… but life must go on…

After checking the website and calling direct to reservations, I was told that this beautiful iconic train will come to an end…by September this year.

New schedules to be introduced in April with a more sleeker and faster train….

. I took the Sunlander with my own private cabin and it was just awesome! A couple of years ago.  It was private, and lovely sights.  Watching at my leisure the scenery go by in the outback and small country towns….then off to the cafe for lunch/dinner.  Meeting wonderful people a long the way.

The Sunlander commenced service in June 1953, replacing the Sunshine Express. This new air conditioned train was hauled by a diesel locomotive and by eliminating steam locomotive servicing stops, the transit time to Cairns was reduced from 45 to 41¼ hours. Since then the time has been cut to 31 hours.

I have been told that the Sunlander will expire and retire…. and replaced with another type of train…but no berth cabins… and just like a capsule on a plane…. I personally love the ideal of a private cabin…. without being around crowds and being able to read a book, and relax…

Soooo… before this iconic train leaves us, I am making another trip and enjoying it and hope you do too!
